Homeroom Parents Needed

Being a homeroom parent can be a rewarding and fun experience for both you and your child!

If you are interested in being a Homeroom Parent for your child’s class next school year, please contact Stephanie Cavanagh and Janine Bersteinas soon as possible.  Most of our volunteers reach out to us before the end of this school year so please do not wait until teacher assignments come out in August.  We already have 13 people who have emailed us requesting to be considered!  We will be making the selections on a first come, first served basis.  If you know of any families new to WES (transfer or new kindergarten students) who may not be on WES Mail, please feel free to forward this information to them.

Homeroom Parents  Needed for 18-19 School Year

Being a homeroom parent can be a rewarding and fun experience for both you and your child!  Classroom duties include organizing class activities with your child’s teacher, planning a few holiday parties and coordinating volunteers for special events throughout the year.  Responsibilities are usually shared between two Homeroom Parents.

If you are interested in being a homeroom parent for your child’s class next year, please contact BOTH Stephanie Cavanagh and Jen Jamieson.  Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon!

Mosaic Art Project

The mosaic art project for the bus circle will wrap up this Friday, June 1st.  Artist-in-residence, David Woods, is working with Mrs. Ryan to help the students create a beautiful outdoor mosaic.  There are still opportunities to volunteer during your child’s art special from Tuesday-Friday this week.

Grounds and Green Donations

Do you have any perennials popping up in your garden that need to be divided or moved?  If so, the PTO Grounds & Greens committee would love to take your donations.  Your plants will make a lasting impact on the beauty of WES!  We can use sun, shade or anything in between.  We are also looking for donations of a few outdoor umbrellas (good condition) for the picnic tables scattered around the WES grounds. Please contact Lauren Averillor Janine Berstein to donate.  Thank you!

May Day

May Day is THIS FRIDAY! This is one of the most popular (and fun) events at WES, but its success requires many parent volunteers.  If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for a shift at a game station – it doesn’t even have to be “your” class. We assign games to teachers because that’s an easy way to divide up volunteers, but if you are available for any spots left open, we’d appreciate your help!  Right now, there are many games that do not have a single volunteer for various time slots and that just won’t work. Please help us make this the best day possible for our kids.

If you have any questions, please email Patty Briganti or Heidi Bischoff.

Mosaic Art Project

We have a great volunteer opportunity! The mosaic art project for the WES bus circle has begun. Artist-in-residence, David Woods, is working with Mrs. Ryan to help the students create a beautiful outdoor mosaic. Your help is needed to assist students with cutting tile and installing tile pieces under the direction of Mrs. Ryan and Mr. Woods. Sign up here!

Please sign up here to volunteer.  Thanks for your support!

Spring Service Project

You can help us get everyday essentials into the hands of children. Starting today until Friday, April 20th, we will be collecting school and art supplies for Cradles to Crayons that can be dropped in the WES Lobby.  Any supplies will be accepted, but all must be brand new!  Please click here for any ideas.  If you have any questions, contact Candice Rogers or Cornelia Viera.

Gift of Giving

WES students will be participating in a school-wide community service project as part of their classroom Valentine’s Day parties on Wednesday, February 14th.

During their parties, students will package and decorate “Breakfast Bags” for Aid for Friends, a Philadelphia non-profit organization that provides free home-cooked meals to isolated, homebound individuals.  Students will also be decorating cards to be delivered with the Breakfast Bags, bringing extra cheer to the recipients.

We are asking the WES community to donate the Breakfast Bag items until Friday, February 9th.  Please click here to find a list of items assigned to each grade.  If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Whitehead or Erica Kaufman.  Thank you for your support!
